A Whole Bunch of Random

I've been random the last few days. So I've posted some odd stuff on Facebook. Some of it needs to be posted here as well.

Lovecraftian:
"We got the gills that give the thrills!" aka the New Esoteric Order of Dagon motto.

A new term for my clinical depression:
Oh, while listening to M.R. James' 'Count Magnus' while driving yesterday, came up with a good euphemism for 'being diagnosed (again) with depression'. 'Taking the Black Pilgrimage to Chorazin.' Seems fitting, since I came back with a follower that will never leave. Luckily (?) it rarely sucks the faces off of people. So I may start calling my swings as 'my minion from Chorazin.' Better than a black dog. I like dogs.

(don't worry, this isn't a cry for help or anything, just a random bit of brain foo. Change what you call a thing, and you change how you react. Words have power, and weird words make me feel 'better')

For those who are curious, you can find the story at the following link Text of Count Magnus

and if you just want a summary, check out The Wikipedia page on the story.

How M.R. James described me right before my Dad was born:
One more M.R. James bit. From the intro to 'A Neighbour's Landmark'. Sound like anyone you may know ? *wink*

"Those who spend the greater part of their time in reading or writing books are, of course, apt to take rather particular notice of accumulations of books when they come across them. They will not pass a stall, a shop, or even a bedroom-shelf without reading some title, and if they find themselves in an unfamiliar library, no host need trouble himself further about their entertainment. The putting of dispersed sets of volumes together, or the turning right way up on those which the dusting housemaid has left in an apoplectic condition, appeals to them as one of the lesser Works of Mercy."

It's been an odd morning, but all things considered I'm doing ok I think. Ciao.

Cthulhu’s CtheeseBurger and other Weirdness

Haven't had a lot to talk about. Work is still fluid, brainmeats are still iffy. Texas is still hot as blazes. Having issues with sleep, and with waking up unwanted early (6am on a Saturday is just wrong). Though on the positive tentacle, I did get almost all my chores done. On another positive tentacle, I had lunch with some nifty friends, and was reminded that I have a pretty good burger place just down a couple of roads from me. (Fuddruckers for those who care about such things. Used to go a lot with friends, and with Mom, but in the last few years I haven't gone.) Didn't get anything fancy, a 1/3rd pound cheeseburger (provolone, cheddar and swiss), steak fries, and a grape sprite. Just what the burger desires ordered.

Post food and friends, I went to a Half Price Books, only found one book that said 'you need this'. A collection of Aleister Crowley's 'Simon Iff' stories. More interested in his idea of an 'occult detective' vs Crowleyness. I also went to B&N for the first time in a few years. Was looking for the latest issue of Fortean Times. They had an issue, from July 2017. Oops. Came home after that, had some errands I thought about running, but it's too darn hot here. Came home, chilling out. Actually, I'm kind of craving another burger (and their fries). My crazed cravings.

Plans for the rest of the weekend, maybe some more errands in the morning. Maybe working on some more reorg of Château Innsmouth. Next weekend is a three day weekend, so I'll try to balance social/hermit, along with some bookstore raiding (Half Price Books 20% off weekend). In a few weeks I'll be going back to Portland for my 2nd HPLFF. Really looking forward to the gathering of the cultists, and the fun of Lovecraftian/Weird films on a big screen. Plus the Hollywood Theater in Portland is awesome. And of course, Powell's City of Books. Hopefully by then I have a plan for what path my gainful employment will take. I can hope at least. And on that note, I'm going to call this a post.

'Black Panther' was simply amazing. The heroes are heroic (with the female leads stealing the show), the antagonists aren't just bad, for the most part you can see how their views conflict with T'challa, so better than most bad guys in comic movies. Lots of good fight scenes, lots of great one liners and character interaction. Plus, the depiction of Wakanda is just amazing. One foot in traditional cultures, one foot in the future and just plain nifty. My one complaint, I wanted more of a tour of Wakanda vs superfights. But I can hope for special features on the bluray.

Going to the store today took my last bits of ability to cope with humanity. The urge to scream 'Move your ass' at the people ahead of me in check out was almost uncontrollable. Possibly in Koine Greek because life should be interesting like that. (note to self, learn to say 'move your ass' in Koine Greek before going to the airport next week). At home now, doing laundry. Cthulhu bless my gillslits, I'm tired.

Well last night's dreams were weird. From historical churches with ancient cults and exorcism schools (convenient placement there), to fighting against a zombie horde invading random suburbia with one of those magic movie katanas that is more lightsaber than steel in it's ability to remove limbs. I'll take zombies apocalypse and horrors from beyond space time over my usual anxiety dreams.

Last night after 'Black Panther' we stopped by the nearby Half Price Books. I didn't get anything, nothing I couldn't live without, and I have plenty of book shopping plans for the trip to Providence. But I did find, in the rare/nostalgia section, volumes one and two of "The Encyclopaedia of Russian Crime Tattoos." Not something you find in bookstores every day. Almost got them for the oddness factor, I think they were $30 each. (If anyone is interested in them, I can send you the info of the store, I'm sure they'd be willing to ship for a reasonable fee, or I could pick them up and you could pay me back. I'm sure one of my author or game designer friends could make good use of them)

More bad dreams, was living back in NY, with Mom. Dad was dead, and in the middle of the night some 'Christian Psychics' were there to tell us what Dad wanted us to do. They knew odd facts about Dad, so Mom was believing them even though I pointed out that's not hard info to find. They did something, and suddenly I was shooting all three of them, repeatedly as if they were monsters in a horror movie. While Mom sat there shocked, I dragged the bodies down to the basement and dissolved them in acid (that we just happened to keep around). Then I woke up. W! T! F!!! Dear subconscious, stop with the dead relative dreams, please ?

Also woke up with aching joints, and a meh mood. Today I need to clean some stuff up, and start the Jan patching. Also need to go to get my weekly allergy shot. Wild times.

15;34
Starting the Jan patch schedule for Carcosa Corp. So of course, I'm listening to an audiobook of 'The King in Yellow'. Lets see if I can unmask these servers...

Does the previous comment make me a 'Repairer of Replications' ?

Five dollars in The Imperial Dynasty of America currency if you get the joke. ;)

And patching done, at least the development shoggoths. Tune in tomorrow, when I do it again.
