Had another mostly good night's sleep, woke up about 11. Futzed around
for a while, ran some errands including filling up my fridge. Came
home, unloaded stuff, got mail, Haven't really done much else, well I
did sort the pile of stuff from NYC, mostly receipts I didn't need to
keep. Finished the update of VMs, going to upgrade my two main Linux
Mint VM's to 17.3 beta to play around as I usually do. Geek, thy name
is Vulpine.
Tonight I've decided to have a late night, movies and geeking and stuff.
Last bit of post vacation decompression before tomorrow getting my butt
into gear with that darn resume. Also going to push myself on walking,
not NYC level of steps, but more than the 5k I've been aiming for. We'll
see how it goes. I'm also doing ok on snacking, a little before bedtime
and I'm mostly sticking to normalesque portions for meals. Aiming for
little changes that build up.
Did a little Cthulhumas shopping today, nothing major. I can't do my usual
overspend this year, not when I'm currently unemployed. So mostly
cards, a few things here and there, and avoiding my habit of picking up
something for myself whenever I order something for others. Yay fiscal
responsibility.
Ok, that's about it for today. Coming soon will be the Book of Travels,
once I sit down and write it all out. I also have some redecorating/re
arranging plans to work out. I will be productive and stuff. Go Team
Vulpine.
Well I slept pretty solid last night, stayed up til a bit after midnight
watching 'Dagon' and 'Curse of the Crimson Altar' while fiddling with things.
Dreamed good dreams, a future me in a very cyberpunkish but also utopian
world. Woke up about 9ish, ate a little breakfast, and started doing
assorted things. Putting up books, updating computers and VMs, catching
up on webcomics, all kinds of stuff. I'm tired still, but the plan for
today is pretty simple. I'll leave the house to get a package from the
apartment office, and probably some cheap fast food for lunch, then
continue updating and organizing and hermiting. Quiet time is quiet.
But not too quiet.
I'm also going to try to keep to the habits I setup in NYC. More walking,
aiming for a higher total than 5k a day. Much less snacking and soda.
3 'meals' a day. I also have to keep in mind that my mind and tentacles
can handle a lot more than I gave myself credit for. (I'll go into
detail in a later post, after a lot more naval gazing). So yeah, got
plans and ideas and thoughts.
That's about it for the moment, there will be a lot of posts in the near
future, probably 1 per trip day, along with some other deep thoughts.
It's good to be home, but I also miss home too. Oh well, I can always
visit again, and plan to. Catch you all later boys and girls.
Last post before I'm on my way to NYC. I'll be mostly quiet during the
week, though I'll probably either make a nightly post from the hotel,
or you'll get a flood of stuff when I get home next Saturday. If I don't
post, have a happy Thanksgiving (if you celebrate) and don't blow up the
internets while I'm gone. Oh yeah, and wish me luck with my anxiety,
I'll probably need it. Ciao cultists.
Well I'm up early. Had a series of odd dreams that made me not want to
be asleep, plus I need to go to bed early tonight. So when I woke up
at 6am I stayed awake. Plan for today is pretty simple, charge up
spare hermit batteries, charge up regular batteries, last store run for
the few things I thought of getting, chores, get some fast food for dinner,
and go to bed early. Currently I'm watching 'Riddick' while starting up the
VM update run. Usual Friday, just set 3 hours early.
Not much else going on this morning. Mostly I'm just idling here. Sleepy.
But if it means a solid night's sleep before travel, I'll take it.
So that's the state of the pre-travel fox. Ok, catch you all later.
Been another mixed day. Did a store run for the last few things I need
for the trip...then promptly think of another couple of items I'd need.
Packed and repacked and google about packing...hello mr travel anxiety,
I didn't miss you. I think I've got everything settled, and tomorrow
will be mostly being quiet and hermitish...as I won't be able to hermit
for the next week. Had dinner with Amythest and Nymaz to go over the
plans, and have real Mexican food before going to the land of bad Mexican
food. Was good to see friends, even if I seemed to be off kilter.
Came home after dinner, got a text from my uterine sibling...she's not going
to make it to Jones Beach next Friday for the scattering of the ashes.
Which has me relieved, I wasn't wanting to deal with the bloodrelative drama.
None of us really get along, even the agnate sibling being much more pleasant
with me this last year and change. But they don't get along, and I was
expecting to have to play Switzerland between them. So instead I'll be
saying goodbye to the parents, and saying hello again to my ocean, my
long missed Atlantis Thalassa. *sudden flashback to Xenophon's
history of the 10,000'* (Please give yourself 5 points of Greek history
if you get the reference).
So yeah, I'm home. I'm mostly physically ready for the trip. Mentally,
soso, and I have no real idea on the emotional side right now. Going to
bed in a little while to read. Tomorrow as I said will be mostly hermitage,
doing some chores, watching movies, the final store run, and going to bed
early. Hoping that by Saturday at 0 dark 30 I'll be ready to go.
Cthulhu give me strength (and ebooks). Ok, catch you all tomorrow.
Well I finally figured out how to fix the X.org issue with running Fedora 23
under VirtualBox, where you can't install the vbox driver for video.
This limits the VM to a max of 1024x768. The
fix is to downgrade the x.org drivers to F22's version.
This will roll the packages back. Note, after you do this, dnf/yum upgrade
will reinstall the F23 packages. To prevent this, edit /etc/dnf/dnf.conf and
add the following line at the end\
exclude=xorg-x11-*
Then reinstall the VirtualBox drivers as usual, and you should get your normal
options for screen size back. Eventually there will be an update for
VirtualBox to fix this, but until then we've got this.
Woke up early, after some psycho dreams. One, all grain in the universe
had been destroyed, except for grains in the form of a giant pretzel stick.
You could grind it up to make bread or porridge, or just nibble on the
sticks. Weird. Woke up hungry. Went back to sleep, dreamed that the
end of the world was happening, and the Anti-Christ was visiting DFW to
end the world at Six Flags. Except it was obvious to me that this was just a
big phony for reasons I couldn't explain. So I was ninja-ing my way into
Six Flags to disrupt things by strategically placing Cthulhu stuff around
the park. Darn phony evils, you cannot stand against the power of the
Old Squiddy One. That at least I know where it comes from, I watched a
bad Omen-themed movie last night, and I guess my brain was trying to flush
it out as fast as possible.
Got up, shook my head, got dressed and headed to pick up meds from the
pharmacy. Started up laundry...except only 1 out of 4 washers are working.
*eye roll* Glad I had no other plans for today. *yawn* Well besides
picking up Château Innsmouth and packing. Do I put the tentacles in
carry-on or checked baggage? *yawn* Ok people, going to get back to
doing stuffs. Catch you all later.
Slightly more motivated day, ran some errands including buying some new jeans
for the trip. Mostly though was an excuse to be out of the house and
listening to the latest Dark Adventure Radio Theatre release. Came home,
unloaded the car, did some dishes and generally been in a better mood
than I have been lately. Nothing like a little holiday themed Lovecraft
to change the mood around.
Plans for the rest of the week are mostly trip related, along with picking
up meds tomorrow (I won't run out til I'm back from the trip, but why
wait). Laundry is going to get done tomorrow or Thursday day, Thursday
night is dinner with my fellow travellers to go over the plans. Friday
I'll be forcing myself awake at something way early...since Saturday's travel
starts about 5:30 am. Ugg, that will suck. And please don't say 'You can
sleep on the plane.' I've managed to fall asleep on a plane a total of twice
in my life. Something about trusting my mortal coil to a metal tube in the
sky causes me to be more alert than usual. I'll just be tired on Saturday...
and wired. Wee.
Not much else going on, loading Fedora Rawhide (testing version) on a VM
and watching Lucio Fulci's 'House By The Cemetery'. My life in a nutshell.
Well, with a side of tentacles. Oh wait, I'm wearing an EoD tshirt, that
covers the tentacles. *smile* And on that note, I'm going to call this
a post. Take care.
Vacation in a few days. We fly out on Saturday AM. Should be a fun time.
Trying to make all the lists for stuff I need to have done. Lists upon
lists. Got up early this AM, went and hit the store for foodstuff for
the week, and for some travel stuff. Going to figure out what I still
need and make another run later in the week. I also need to do laundry
this week, general organizing, etc.
Had a blah Sunday, slept funny and pulled my neck, didn't want to leave the
house, so I spent most of the day napping or reading. Slept odd last
night, weird dreams...I think about traveling. Yeah, I'm still anxious
about that. Oh well, that's why I have medication.
Not much else going on right now. Neck is still tender, but not horrible.
...and I really can't think of anything else to write. So, I'll catch
you all later on.
