Staying up later than I usually manage. I'm tired, but I'm jittery. So I'm futzing around, realized there was a work server that alerted last night due to low space during a backup, then recovered...but I didn't want to get texted in the night, so I threw a bunch of space at it. (New backup routine, and I haven't quite figured out how much space it will need, darn needy databases). I'm also upgrading a home VM to the latest Ubuntu server available, because I am a nerd.
To be honest, I don't want to go to sleep. Last night's anxiety dreams were very unpleasant, even though I don't remember details. So I'm avoiding sleep. Eventually I'll crash, but not for a while. I have plans for tomorrow (finally going to see the new Godzilla flick), but there's no time frame...so hopefully I can just sleep in once I crash. We'll see.
But for now, more comfort soup, some silly TV, and geekery. Then book and bed and hopefully dreams of tentacles and Caroline Munro ;)

Wish I was Goin’ Down to Dunwich
Lots of stuff and things lately. Finally finished the Atlassian migration.
It does still require work, upgrading things to a supported version that
allows me to migrate the next set of Atlassian foo. But that's for another
week. Speaking of Carcosa Corp, found out we're offically moving offices
to the main set of offices in DFW. Not sure how much it will apply to me,
since there's no current plan to move the DC we have. So that's something
we need to work out. Move is in the next quarter or two. Looking forward
to yet another wild fun of moving offices.
Speaking of moving, it's offical, I'm not moving this year. Too much other stuff going on. Work, timing, my own stress levels, and when the season of hot hits the area. So I signed a 9 month leason (starts May 1st), so I'll be trying to move right after the New year 2020. No idea where I'm going still. Will depend on work, on what I can find, and honestly, where is the best location for access to my favorite book haunts. So instead of moving I'm going to do a major declutter and moving of stuff into storage, and getting rid of things I'll never use or need again. (already have several bags of clothes to go to Goodwill). So hopefully when it comes time to move, I won't be in a huge scramble. We'll see.
Weekend was helping a friend out, managed to get myself majorly dusted, and tweaked my back. So I'm taking it easy tonight, watching movies and taking it easy. Tomorrow is probably chores, assuming I feel like moving around. Then it's another crazy week of work. And that's all I have, and have had for the last couple of hours. So I guess I'll call this a post.

A subject, a subject. My kingdom for a subject!
Well it's almost 3 weeks into the new year. Been a crazy few weeks.
Work went from 0 (vacation) to 60 in nothing flat. This weekend was my
latest attempt to migration 'The Software in Yellow' (my new nickname
for the Atlassian Suite). Things were completed this afternoon, and
testing will start tomorrow AM. *crosses all the tentacles*. I'm really
sick of dealing with this, hopefully I'll get some kind of break soon
from looking at it. We'll see.
Non work stuff, I rolled back the upgrade on Dagon soon after I made the post last time, the new SSD I had failed, so I rushed to plug in the old one. Which solved a number of frustrations. New computer plan is to build a computer new system, install the latest on that. Then transfer stuff from system to system, so I can work out the kinks without having to live through them. My new project though is a new media player system, I'm finding Shoggoth just doesn't have the oomph to deal with some media. So I'm picking up a gently used Lenovo tiny PC, going to throw some flavor of Ubuntu/Debian/Mate on it, and plug that in. Same basic setup, just more power.
Another project is getting pushed back. I had a plan to move when my lease was up this spring. But given how work is, and how the universe has been acting, along with the amount of stuff I need to do before the move, makes me think I just want to push it back one last time. Gives me time to plot, plan and organize. I'm also thinking of getting a storage unit, help clear out some space so I have room to organize easier. Plus I have stuff that I don't want to get rid of, but I don't need on hand all the time. Same with clearing some shelf space. We'll see how that all goes. (I've planned this about a dozen times in the past I think)
Not much else to speak of. This has been sitting open without anything else to type for a long while now. Going to call it a post. Hoping tonight I'll get some decent sleep, and that tomorrow's migration testing goes smooth. I'm also off Monday, which will probably be a hermit and chill day. At least, that's what I hope.

How has Vulpine’s staycation gone ?
Well it's been a mostly relaxing staycation. Spent Tuesday organizing books
and moving stuff around. Wednesday was mostly working on the reimage of
Dagon, which got frustrating. Have files I need to pull off the old drive,
and there's some weird configuration foo I'm not sure how I'm going to fix.
I have some ideas, but it's been a long while since I dug this deep into
the Linux desktop configs. But nothing is so broken it's not usable, it's
just annoying. And if I can deal with Windows 10, I can deal with annoying
Linux boxes. I'm definitely not touching Hydra until I absolutely have to.
Don't mess with your backup server, just keep it backing up :)
Today I went out, I hadn't left the house since Tuesday. I wasn't feeling too stircrazy, but I wanted to do some book hunting and get some lunch, with a few errands. But my anxiety started to spike up, so I cut things short. I did get one errand done. When I got my new phone, and moved my number off the old Carcosa Corp account, I went with Google Fi vs going back to T-Mobile. And while the service sounded good, and more affordable, in practice my quasi dead zone of an apartment became a full on dead zone for all things cellular. And wifi calling wasn't better. Calls would fail to dial, or drop randomly. Wireless access and GPS was spotty. So after a month or so of that, I gave up, and went back to T-Mobile. Took about 15 min, and things were ported over by the time I got home to install the simcard on the phone. Tested, and much better luck with phone calls. Well, so far. *crosses tentacles*
Tomorrow is...*shrug* See when I wake up what I'm up for. I still have organization I want to do, and there's chores, and I'll be working on computer stuff once the external enclosure shows up. Guess I'll play it by ear, I have a feeling that come Sunday I'll be down in the dumps and dreading the work week. Not that work is so bad, but it's going to be a crazy week of patching, migration, and catching up after the last week. Oh well, that's why I took a week off, to hopefully recharge my tentacles.
So that's the state of the fox. Other than the anxiety today, it's been a pretty good brainmeats week. More good sleep than not. Watched a bunch of decent movies, done some reading, been planning stuff I need to do this year. Cthulhu grant me plenty of tentacles and some good luck.

Cthulhu’s CtheeseBurger and other Weirdness
Haven't had a lot to talk about. Work is still fluid, brainmeats are still
iffy. Texas is still hot as blazes. Having issues with sleep, and with
waking up unwanted early (6am on a Saturday is just wrong). Though on
the positive tentacle, I did get almost all my chores done. On another
positive tentacle, I had lunch with some nifty friends, and was reminded
that I have a pretty good burger place just down a couple of roads from
me. (Fuddruckers for those who care about such things. Used to go a lot
with friends, and with Mom, but in the last few years I haven't gone.)
Didn't get anything fancy, a 1/3rd pound cheeseburger (provolone, cheddar
and swiss), steak fries, and a grape sprite. Just what the burger desires
ordered.
Post food and friends, I went to a Half Price Books, only found one book that said 'you need this'. A collection of Aleister Crowley's 'Simon Iff' stories. More interested in his idea of an 'occult detective' vs Crowleyness. I also went to B&N for the first time in a few years. Was looking for the latest issue of Fortean Times. They had an issue, from July 2017. Oops. Came home after that, had some errands I thought about running, but it's too darn hot here. Came home, chilling out. Actually, I'm kind of craving another burger (and their fries). My crazed cravings.
Plans for the rest of the weekend, maybe some more errands in the morning. Maybe working on some more reorg of Château Innsmouth. Next weekend is a three day weekend, so I'll try to balance social/hermit, along with some bookstore raiding (Half Price Books 20% off weekend). In a few weeks I'll be going back to Portland for my 2nd HPLFF. Really looking forward to the gathering of the cultists, and the fun of Lovecraftian/Weird films on a big screen. Plus the Hollywood Theater in Portland is awesome. And of course, Powell's City of Books. Hopefully by then I have a plan for what path my gainful employment will take. I can hope at least. And on that note, I'm going to call this a post.

63 Hours of Hermitage
Well, this weekend has been near maximum hermitage. Came home Friday
evening, and I've only opened the door for food delivery. I reorganized
the Starry Wisdom library, I've watched a lot of horror movies, read.
Caught up (kind of) on sleep. Yesterday was little to no anxiety, today
isn't quite as nice. Tomorrow is back to the job, with patching and
probably a number of meetings about the migration. I really don't have
updates from my last post on the subject. I've got a plan, and a schedule
as a framework. So we'll see how it goes.
Non-work related stuff, less than 2 months til HPLFF in Portland. Looking forward to visiting Innsmouth West. This week I need to drop my car off at the dealer for general maintenance, plus the usual allergy shots. Next weekend 'Meg' gets released, giant sharks and giant squid. I'm so there. Not much of anything else in the works. Or really to talk about. So I'll call this a post.

State of the Fox: Brainmeats and melting.
Well, I finally finished my epic series about my trip to Innsmouth. Well,
such that can be spoken without violating my oaths to Dagon *wink* Outside
of my trip, there hasn't been a lot of news worthy stuff going on. My
emotional foo is as it usually is, variable. I've visited the pshrink
recently, and nothing much has changed from last visit. I know things aren't
perfect in my brain, but I'm able to function, hold down a job, and most
all the other 'normal' activities.
Work is kind of stressful. There is debate on what my role is, between local and corporate. And I'm stuck in the middle, not really knowing where I fit. Uncertainty is not my friend. It could be worse, I'm 98% sure I'll have a job either way. I just wish I knew what I'd be doing by the end of the year.
That stress, plus the way reality seems to be going, has been making my brainmeats wig out. I'm anxious, a lot. My depression is more or less the same, a little higher. I spend a lot of time at night trying to run imaginary scenarios to relax. Focus is spotty at best, even with books. I was able to focus some on playing chess, but my game has dropped rather. Luckily I can go from computer: beginner to computer: clueless, so I don't have to feel bad about being owned by a computer as much. So what am I going to do ? Well I took today off as a mental health day, got a bunch of chores done first thing this morning, and I've been watching horror flicks. Tomorrow is much the same, with an eye doctor visit in the afternoon. And Sunday is also kind of the same idea, with a viewing of 'Equalizer 2'. I'm also going to work on VM updates, low level geek stuff, remind myself that computers can be fun. Then hopefully on Monday I'm somewhere back to 'normal'.
Otherwise, life is mostly trying to survive the summer. We're in a crazy heatwave (even for Texas in July). 110 temps until next Tuesday, when it drops to a more normal 100. *eyeroll* I really wish I didn't live in crazy heat land. Though it seems that most of the US is also in crazy hot weather. I'm wondering if I could get a good internet connection in Greenland.
So that's about all I have right now. I wanted to write less brainmeats and more geek stuff, but that's what came out. I am going to try to write more often, I've even rearranged my desktop layout and vim settings to make it easier. We'll see. Via con Cthulhu everyone.

A stack overflow on a shoggoth is nothing to laugh at, even in a small developer environment

(Title is a random quote of myself, because I couldn't come up with a fitting one out of the blue)
Well, I'm coming up on two weeks since I returned from Providence. I miss it still, but a bit of the NRE (New RealEstate Energy) has faded. Still wish I didn't live somewhere that my allergies hate. Oh well. The grass is always greener in the other city.
Real life has been well, life. Work is alright, haven't had anything big to deal with. Things get a little busier after this weekend, but nothing crazy. At home it's about the same, I had plans last weekend to do a bunch of stuff, but I stuck to chilling out at home for the most part. This weekend is socializing on Saturday, and chores and stuff on Sunday.
Read a random book on medieval cities, finished it last night. Was a sort of trip down memory lane, as my first big history nerdism was European history from post Empire to the Hundred years war. The focus was the city of Troyes around 1250, so lots of things I knew, and even more than I'd once known, and have since forgotten. Bit of a change from my usual Greco-Roman or Mesopotamian history that's my usual flavor. In the weird fiction real, I'm reading a collection I picked up at StokerCon, 'Black Pantheons' by Curtis M. Lawson. The stories are pretty good, but the last, and longest is kind of hard to read. Main character has some form of dementia, and lives in a retirement community. Yeah, that doesn't stir up memories for me at all. But still worth reading, especially for the first story and the eldritch version of Pinocchio.
So yeah, that's about it for me. Having a nice quiet Friday night, been watching 70's British horror flicks and futzing around online. Night all, and I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Been a while
Haven't had the ...whatever powers blogposts in a while. Part of it is
the less than great headspace I've been in. Work is somewhat stressful,
with us being short an admin, and the different groups I am matrix managed
by are pulling in various ways. Brainmeats are pretty annoying too, with
all my usual issues showing themselves, usually when I could really use
a break.
Took a long weekend from work, off Friday through Monday, back on Tuesday. Probably one of my better decisions. I've caught up on sleep, caught up on laundry and chores and managed to rearrange bookshelves to make room for... more books. *chuckle* I expect to come back from my trip to Providence with a bunch of books, so I'm trying to make room for them. I've also spent yesterday and today updating the VM horde. New versions of Fedora, OpenSuSE and LinuxMint, so I've been busy. It's also therapeutic, I find patching to relax me.
Speaking of Providence, I leave in less than 3 weeks. Half a week of wandering Providence and nearby environs, and the StokerCon fun and games. My plans are kind of nebulous, I really should sit down and get my list of stuff down on paper (virtual). Museums and history sites, bookstores, and of course all things Lovecraft, plus whatever insanity I get up to at StokerCon. Should be a lot of fun, and I'm finally getting to go visit Grandpa Theobald's stomping grounds.
I'm about to call it a day, turn off the movies and spend the rest of the night in a book. Or several. Books that is. Hopefully tonight is restful and full of good reading, and tomorrow I get a final day of time off before back to the crazy. Wish me luck.

01/10/18 – daily stuff

More bad dreams, was living back in NY, with Mom. Dad was dead, and in the middle of the night some 'Christian Psychics' were there to tell us what Dad wanted us to do. They knew odd facts about Dad, so Mom was believing them even though I pointed out that's not hard info to find. They did something, and suddenly I was shooting all three of them, repeatedly as if they were monsters in a horror movie. While Mom sat there shocked, I dragged the bodies down to the basement and dissolved them in acid (that we just happened to keep around). Then I woke up. W! T! F!!! Dear subconscious, stop with the dead relative dreams, please ?
10:12
Also woke up with aching joints, and a meh mood. Today I need to clean some stuff up, and start the Jan patching. Also need to go to get my weekly allergy shot. Wild times.
15;34
Starting the Jan patch schedule for Carcosa Corp. So of course, I'm listening to an audiobook of 'The King in Yellow'. Lets see if I can unmask these servers...
18:22
Does the previous comment make me a 'Repairer of Replications' ?
Five dollars in The Imperial Dynasty of America currency if you get the joke. ;)
19:46
And patching done, at least the development shoggoths. Tune in tomorrow, when I do it again.
